The Republic of Buryatia is a constituent entity of the Russian Federation. The administrative and cultural center of the republic is the Ulan-Ude city.
Buryatia lies in the southern part of Eastern Siberia, embracing Lake Baikal in the south and in the east and bordering on Mongolia. The total area of Buryatia is 351.3 thousand sq.km. The climate in some areas of Republic is moderate and continental, in others – sharp and continental. Apparently, the most delightful thing about Buryatia’s climate is that it is equal to Sochi in the number of sunny days per year. The epithet "sunny Buryatia" has long been assigned to the republic.
Buryatia is a multinational republic. The indigenous peoples are Buryats, Evenks and Soyots; Russians make up 65% of the total population, Buryats – 30%, other nationalities – 5%. Buddhism, Christianity and Shamanism are the main religions that have peacefully co-existed on this land for centuries.
