Chinese Language Week at Buryat State University

The Department of Far Eastern Philology at the Oriental Institute, together with the Confucius Institute at BSU, held Chinese Language Week for students of Buryat State University.

The event, timed to coincide with the Chinese New Year, took place from February 16th to 20th. Students from the Oriental Institute, the Institute of History and Philology, the Institute of Law and Economics, and BSU College actively participated in olympiads, quizzes, and competitions, competing in their knowledge of Chinese language, culture, and literature. The Confucius Institute also held a master class on creating traditional Chinese lettering pairs!

The winners and runners-up of the olympiads, competitions, and quizzes were awarded at the closing ceremony of Chinese Language Week.

The awards ceremony was attended by Olga Dorzhievna Tugulova, Head of the Department of Far Eastern Philology, PhD in Philology, and Associate Professor; Lidiya Leonidovna Vetluzhskaya, Director of the Confucius Institute, PhD in History, and Yang Li, Professor at Changchun Polytechnic University and Deputy Director of the Confucius Institute.

Schoolchildren from the capital of Buryatia participated in the New Year's celebration. High school students competed in the intellectual quiz "Not Just Rice and Chopsticks!" Victory went to the strongest:

All participants showed a keen interest in learning Chinese and demonstrated excellent knowledge and a high level of erudition.

Chinese Language Week has already become a long-standing tradition, bringing together students from various fields of study who are passionate about the culture and language of China. Organizers and teachers noted the high level of preparation of the participants and their genuine interest in Asian studies. Such events not only motivate students to further their language studies but also help strengthen friendly ties between institutes and faculties, opening new horizons for academic and cultural exchange.
