On February 24, the Translation and Intercultural Communication Department of the Institute of Philology, Foreign Languages and Mass Communications held an event dedicated to the Spring Festival - the traditional Chinese New Year in the lunar calendar. In 2021, the Ox Year began on February 12 in China. Our 1st, 2nd and 3d year translation students learning Chinese took an active part in organizing the event within the traditional Chinese Language Week.

The guests of honor at the meeting were the director of the Confucius Institute of BSU, Lidia Leonidovna Vetluzhskaya,Chinese teachers of the Confucius Institute, Mr. Tang Te and Ms. Liu Yan, postgraduate students Gao Jianguo, Xijendaolima and HuBuqin. Thanks to their fascinating presentations and reports, the students were able to plunge into the Chinese culture, learn about the Chunjie celebration traditions, understand the connection between culture and food, and, of course, listen to the authentic Chinese speech.

The event consisted of several stages. First of all, the 1st year students went through the quest, which included 5 stations. In the "Workshop of Happiness" students learned to knit the famous knots of happiness, in the "Workshop of Lanterns" a master class on making a paper lantern was held. At the "Journey to the Word" station, the students were asked to guess why this or that character is spelled this way, and at the "Tongue Twisters" station, the participants competed in pronouncing famous Chinese tongue twisters. In the "Calligraphy Workshop" a Chinese teacher Sun Bo skillfully demonstrated his calligraphy skills and taught the students to do it with professional brushes and ink. At each station, the 2nd year students told useful information according to the topic. And this was useful to the participants in the next stage - the "Own Game" quiz. According to the competition results, the first place was taken by the team"小姐 - shki" (Xiaojie-shki). All the participants were awarded diplomas and prizes from the organizers.

At the end of the evening, the students, teachers and guests drank traditional Chinese tea together, got acquainted, took pictures and talked with each other on various topics. During the whole event, there was a warm atmosphere of friendship, kindness and fun.
