On February 6, 2020, the Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the Federal Law “On Amending the Federal Law “On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in the Russian Federation” in terms of simplifying the employment procedure in he Russian Federation for foreign citizens and stateless persons studying in Russian professional and higher education institutions”.
The law was adopted by the State Duma on January 23, 2020 and approved by the Federation Council on January 30, 2020.
The Federal law establishes a simplified procedure for the employment in the Russian Federation of foreign citizens and stateless persons studying full-time in Russian professional and higher education institutions under the main educational program with state accreditation.
The law also establishes that foreign students can carry out labor activities in the Russian Federation in their free time without obtaining a work permit or patent, and employers have the right to attract and use foreign students without obtaining such permission.
