Day of Chinese Culture at the Institute of Confucian Studies

The Institute of Confucian Studies, BGU, held a “Day of Chinese Culture” for students of the Institute of Eastern Studies and students of Linguistic Gymnasium number 3. There were 92 participants in the event, who took part in 4 sections: calligraphy, collage, Chinese art, and craft braiding.

In their sections, students became acquainted with the basic elements of calligraphy, methods of preparing calligraphy instruments (brushes, ink, paper), and the principles of composing various aspects of Chinese characters. The students practiced writing characters with brushes on special paper. They learned one of the most popular decorative handicrafts practiced in China, the practice of collage. Students listened to instructions on various genres and styles of Chinese paintings and the “four treasures” of the artist: the Chinese brush, ink, the inkstone for grinding pigments, and paper. Students enjoyed painting with various pigments, and they listened with great interest as Sun Yufen and Vera Vitalievna Dasheevoi of the Confucian Institute taught them the principles of collage, Chinese style. All of the participants in the event left with a something new. The teachers and Director of the Confucian Institute, Go Hailow, unanimously celebrated the event’s high level of organization and the participant’s great level of interest in Chinese culture.
