On November 21, 2013, the Institute of Philology and Mass Communication, with the cooperation of the faculty of Applied Linguistics and Communication, East Siberia State University of Technology and Management hosted a conference on the topic: “Perception and interpretation of native and foreign cultural phenomena” as part of the department’s annual methodological seminar on “Intercultural Communication: Language Education Aspects.”
James Neimeister, a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant at BSU, led a seminar with the title “From the ‘New World’ to the ‘Contact Zone’: Rethinking the Literary and Cultural History of Latin America.” The lecture provoked an animated scholarly discussed in both Russian and English. Both faculty and students of various local institutions took part.
