From 3rd till 5th June 2013 the delegation of the Buryat State University headed by the rector S. V. Kalmykov visited the University of Alaska in the city Fairbanks (USA) to take part in the annual forum of universities that are included in the international network called "University of the Arctic." This event is called a meeting of the Council of the University of the Arctic. The members of the University of the Arctic are more than 130 educational institutions from such countries of the Arctic region as Russia, Canada, U.S.A. (Alaska), Finland, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Denmark. BSU is a full member of the University of the Arctic since 2005.
The goal of the University of the Arctic is the creation of a stable and ever-evolving circumpolar region by creating favorable conditions for northerns through education and knowledge sharing. Participation in the University of the Arctic provides opportunities for international cooperation in different fields: joint educational programs, study abroad, academic exchange of students, lecturing and probation of teachers, joint research, holding conferences, seminars, etc.
In May 2014 a similar forum will be held at the University of Northern British Columbia, Canada.
In 2015 already Buryat State University is the organizer of the Council of the University of the Arctic. On this question during the forum the delegation of BSU met with the leaders of the University of the Arctic headed by President Lars Kullerud. During this meeting the timing of the forum in Ulan-Ude was discussed. (June 2015).
Also a meeting with the rector of the University of Alaska in Fairbanks, Mr. Brian Rogers took a place during the visit (main photo). Initiatory steps towards rapprochement between our universities were made, the need for the exchange of experience, joint actions on questions of environmental management, environmental areas, native peoples was noted, etc., The preliminary consent of the visit B. Rogers to our university in the Delegation of the University of the Arctic in September this year of was gotten.
