On February 27, 2020 within The German and French Languages Year at BSU the university direction, German language teachers and students of the Institute of Philology, Foreign Languages and Mass Communications had a meeting with the Consul General of Germany in Novosibirsk, Mr. Peter Blomayer. The meeting was substantive in nature. The Consul General was interested in environmental issues of the Baikal region, the Buryat language preserving, the peoples and nationalities diversity, ethnic groups self-identification living in Buryatia, cultural relations between Russia and Germany, as well as scientific and educational aspects of interaction.
The German and French Department presented the main results of their cooperation with German partners (in particular, the Institute named after Goethe and German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)) and informed about their future plans concerning the German language in educational institutions of Buryatia and student exchange issues.
The meeting with students was informal. The Consul General answered their various questions, told about consular activities and education particularities in Germany. He especially noted the high language level of our students. In turn, students shared their impressions of participating in various projects (HansHase, CLILDeutsch, Ökoprojekt, etc.), presented the results of their work.
The Consul General expressed his readiness to support the German and French Department in the implementation of projects aimed at supporting the German language in Buryatia and further close academic cooperation.
