«Theoretical and applied problems of modern linguistics»

Short-term courses «Theoretical and applied problems of modern linguistics» have been launched on October, 16th at the Buryat Republican Teacher Training College within the framework of All-Russian scientific conference with international participation «Regional Variants of a National Language». The conference is organized by Ministry of Education and Science of RB in collaboration with the department of general and historical linguistics of Institute of Philology and Mass Communications of the Buryat State University.

Alexander Mayorov, Doctor of Philology, the chairman of organizing committee of this scientific event has warmly welcomed the participants noticing the advantage of the courses and the highest level of the invited guests and the greatest importance of the conference for work of teachers in Buryatia.

The conference, however, will open on October, 17-18th to be followed by a plenary meeting. On the 19th of October the participants of a forum will hold round table discussions on lake Baikal. Problems of the lexicographic description of regional variants of a national language are to be discussed.

At the conference the following acknowledged researchers made speeches:

Vladimir Belikov, Doctor of Philology, from department of Culture of Russian Speech of Vinogradov Russian Language Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences; the professor of Philological Faculty of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, the author of a well-known textbook on Sociolinguistics;

Grigory Kreydlin, Doctor of Philology, Professor of Russian Language department of Institute of Linguistics of Russian State Humanitarian University, the author of manuals and fascinating popular scientific works on Semiotics;

Maxim Krongauz, Doctor of Philology, head of the Russian Language Department, professor, the Director of Institute of Linguistics of the Russian State Humanitarian University, the author of a popular book «Russian on the verge of a nervous breakdown»;

Boris Norman, Doctor of Philology, Professor of Theoretical and Slavic Linguistics Department of Belarus State University (Minsk), the author of widely known manuals and textbooks on Introduction to Linguistics.
